Composer Biography

Jeremy Young’s music is inspired and informed by his extraordinary musical journey, his international career as a concert pianist and his love of all good music from Mozart to Meshuggah.

He was educated at the Purcell School of Music in London, rubbing shoulders with an eclectic mix of musicians such as Paul Sartin (violinist and singer of  Bellowed and Faustus), Tunde Jegede (kora virtuoso and composer) , Ignat Solzhenitsyn (Conductor of Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia) and Alex Heffes (Hollywood composer of The Last King of Scotland and Touching the Void).

While he was at school he developed a passion for theatre and TV music and appeared as a young actor and solo singer in the West End production of Alan Bennet’s ’40 Years On’ at the Queens Theatre.  He also appeared on the BBC TV drama ‘Bluebells’ and at the Royal Variety performance in 1988.

During his studies at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College of Music Jeremy began composing and arranging music for himself and his friends to perform. The music ranged from classical piano trios and chamber music arrangements to TV themes, jazz, funk, rock and pop music. He was fortunate to have classes with classical heavyweights such as Witold Lutuslawski, Oliver Knussen and Hans Werner Henze and played and performed a number of world premiere compositions.

After finishing his studies Jeremy concentrated on work as a professional concert pianist travelling across the globe and playing in the worlds most prestigious venues with some of the very finest instrumentalists.

He never lost his love of composition and found time to play keyboards and trombone in the ska band ‘Fat Jabba’, writing the title track from their album ‘Hairier than Plan B’. He also co-produced the acclaimed singer/songwriter Tom Hickox’s first EP ‘Trailers’. All this time he was performing his own classical chamber music arrangements and original compositions in concerts from the USA to Asia.

In recent years Jeremy has devoted more time to writing commercial music and is now a published composer for EMI/KPM with his music being used on TV shows across the globe on channels including  BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Fox US, HBO and Channel 5 amongst many, many others.

His playing can be heard on TV and films including recent releases such as ‘Supernova’ and ‘Munich-The Edge of War’ He still enjoys regular composer collaborations with Tom Hickox and the highly regarded TV composer Adam Burns.
